The Full Story

About me

My name is Juke van der Scheer and I am a Physiotherapist specialized in Women’s Health. Over 30 years ago I became a physiotherapist in the Netherlands and worked and developed my "physio-philosophy" while I ran my own practice in a women’s gym. "How can I help you to improve your daily life while you stay independent". It is still valid in my day to day practice.

Then I met Arie my partner, and we decided to challenge the future and started a life in Compiègne in France. Our two beautiful children were born and the French language opened itself to me. So when we moved to Brussels 5 years later, I could easily communicate with Dutch ànd French speaking Belgians….if you want to know more about my life and competencies I work with nowadays, read on…

A Background in Physiotherapy & Specializations

With a bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy from the Netherlands, I specialized as a McKenzie therapist in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy, focusing primarily on spinal problems. I mainly worked with chronic pain patients, in close collaboration with ortho-manual specialized doctors. Early in my career, I also worked as a physiotherapist at ING, where I collaborated closely with corporate health physicians and occupational therapists . In addition, I taught fitness and aerobics, which helped me recognize the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in patient care.

Journey into Sexuality and Pelvic Health

After completing practitioner- and master-level courses in NLP (neuro-linguistic programming and coaching) in Belgium, I discovered my passion for the field of sexuality. This led me to pursue a post-graduate study in Pelvic Health at the University of Louvain la Neuve in 2015. Working in a multi-disciplinary setting at a university hospital in Brussels, I gained experience with a wide range of patients and conditions, including pre- and post-natal care, urinary issues, and gastrointestinal problems often linked to spinal issues.

International Experience and Cultural Insights

A move to China provided the opportunity to work in the Birth Clinic Fergusson Health and TCM Clinic Body & Soul, immersing myself in a different culture and healthcare system. Although my desire to address sexual health was temporarily set aside, the experience enriched my professional and personal life. I started to create workshops for women to become more knowledgable about their own pelvic area.

New Beginnings in Australia

In 2019, we relocated to Australia, where challenges with registration encouraged me to explore new directions. I returned to my early interest in sexual wellbeing within the field of pelvic health physiotherapy. My studies with the Institute of Somatic Sexology profoundly transformed my approach, as I embraced a client-led model in which coaching gained more importance. This journey ultimately led to the creation of my own practice as a somatic sex educator. Today, I integrate pelvic health physiotherapy with somatic sexology, offering a holistic approach to support my clients.

Returning to the Netherlands

In 2023, my family and I returned to the Netherlands, where I reconnected with the roots of my physiotherapy education. I began working at Meer en Bosch Physiotherapy for Kirsten Rijke-Lynch and continued at FysioTeam Voorburg as a pelvic health physiotherapist, taking on a replacement role and where I still work.

In 2024, I found a beautiful location in Leidschendam from which I launched Pelvix, offering a space where the combination of pelvic physiotherapy and body-oriented education can truly come to life.
